The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting social distancing and lockdown measures shocked the world economy. Because standard statistical indicators are published with delays, monitoring the social and economic impacts is difficult. This event showcases the innovative tools that are being used to monitor the real-time risks and impact of the pandemic. What can we learn from Facebook mobility data, credit card transactions, or air satellite pollution data to track economic activity and social risks?

Speakers at this event introduced us to the novel methods they have been using and will discuss their latest findings, including the impact of the autumn wave of the pandemic.
