Changing relationships between Europe and Africa in the face of technological development – can digitalisation, AI and the platform economy help bridge the gap?
This event will look at digitalisation in Europe and Africa and how this is changing the relationship between the two continents
This invitation-only roundtable event will take place in London and is jointly organised by Bruegel and the Center for Global Development (CGD).
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and information and communications technology have the potential to transform a range of industries and services around the world. While they are challenging traditional paths to industrialisation, they may also offer new routes for development focused on services over goods. The platform economy in particular offers new opportunities for developing countries, yet challenges existing welfare models, especially in Europe.
We will discuss the future speed of the impact of automation and AI on labour markets in Europe and Africa, including the potential scale of the transition shock, as well as how technology change might affect the relationship between Europe and the developing world, and in particular Africa.
This is an invitation-only event. Registrations are only open to Bruegel members and a small number of selected invitees. For more information please contact [email protected].
