Nadia Calviño

First Vice-President and Minister for Economy and Digitalization, Spain

 

Nadia Calviño is the Vice President and Minister of Economy and Digitalization. Prior to this, from 2014 to 2018, she was Director General in charge of the Budget at the European Commission, Deputy Director General, with special responsibility for Financial Services and Deputy Director General in the Directorate General for Competition, with special responsibility for Mergers and Antitrust.

Before joining the European Commission in September 2006, she worked at the Ministry of Economy. She held different positions in foreign trade, macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, economic policy and competition. Her highest-ranking duties included those of Deputy Director General for Legal Affairs, Deputy Director General for Mergers and Director General for Competition.

Minister Calviño is a professor at the Faculty of Economics at the Complutense University of Madrid. She has a degree in Economic Sciences (1991) from the Complutense University of Madrid and in Law (2001) from the National Distance Education University.
