Lars Feld

Member, German Council of Economic Experts

Lars P. Feld, an adherent of the ordoliberal ideals of the Freiburg School, has been a member of the Advisory Council since March 2011.

Lars P. Feld teaches economic and regulatory policy at the University of Freiburg where he heads up the Water Eucken Institute. His primary fields of research are economic policy, finance, new political economy and economic analysis of law. As an advisor to the German Ministry of Finance, he played a crucial role in anchoring the debt cap in the German constitution.

After completing his studies in Saarbrücken, Lars Feld worked as a research assistant at the University of St. Gallen where he completed his PhD and habilitation theses in 1999 and 2002. His first professorship was in Marburg in 2002.

Lars Feld is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Federal Ministry of Finance, a regular member of the Leopoldina, i.e. the German Academy of Natural Researchers (National Science Academy), spokesperson of the “Kronberg Circle” (Scientific Advisory Council of the Marktwirtschaft Foundation). He has been serving on the Independent Advisory Board to the German Stability Council as the representative of the Economic Advisory Council since 2013. In 2014 and 2015, he was member of the expert commission "Increasing investment in Germany" which was appointed by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy (so called "Fratzscher commission").

Lars Feld was born in Saarbrücken in 1966, is married and has three children. He lives in Freiburg.
